The Montessori Method
Dr. Maria Montessori introduced her revolutionary method at her Casa dei Bambini in 1906. When translated, “Casa dei Bambini” means House of Children. Dr. Montessori observed children to find out how they learn and through this she developed the Montessori method. The Montessori classroom encourages responsibility, independence, and respect for others. The children freely move amongst five learning areas to explore stimulating activities. These learning areas include: Language, Math, Sensorial, Cultural, and Practical Life. We also have a full creative area available to the children.
A Montessori teacher focuses on the children as individuals. Group times take up a small percentage of the child’s day. In our classroom environment, the teacher is moving around observing the children, noting their interests and suggesting tasks for children individually while presenting and demonstrating the Montessori jobs.
Our multi-aged classroom allows the older children to assist and set examples for the younger students while those younger students are eagerly learning from their older peers.
